Openly betraying the mission

B"H

- Netanyahu and the State of Israel are openly betraying the mission of the Jews, that is to be G-d's light onto the nations, rather then just being a partner of them. G-d gave us the Land of Israel precisely to enable us to do just that, to build a perfect society here, based on Torah, without the negative and foreign influences of the nations. Is this move, participating yet another international body, corresponds to this logic? No, it does not. It is the exact opposite and if we consider the Torah - good, as we do, Israel's joining the OECD is the opposite: evil. It seems that Israel's present leaders lost the Jewish vision of things and replaced it with that of the nations. This phenomena is not new in our history and known as Hellenism. At Hanukah we celebrate the Jewish victory over the Hellenists. Let's hope and pray that present-day Jews will likewise be able to turn the tide and make Israel into a truly Jewish State.

Coop e Agrexco

B"H

We want Jewish looking and Jewish thinking diplomats, not these goy looking ones. Let's the nations not forget: Israel is Jewish!

Unfortunate, non-Jewish conduct

B"H

It is unfortunate that the Bank that prides itself of being "of Israel" prefers to conduct its affairs according to the goyshe principles of the nations and not according to those of the Torah. Five Halachot (Jewish Law) comes to mind, copied with slight editing here from http://www.jewfaq.org/613.htm:

- Not to make loans to Jews on interest (Lev. 25:37)

- Not to borrow on interest (Deut. 23:20) (because this would cause the lender to sin)

- To lend to goyim (to non Jews) at interest (Deut. 23:21)

- Not to demand from a poor Jew repayment of his debt, when the creditor knows that he cannot pay, nor press him (Ex. 22:24)

- To exact the debt from non Jews (Deut. 15:3)

Re: 3 Birdi - Only goyim express their condolences

B"H

We don't say "Sorry for your loss" as you claim, we say Hamakom y'nahaim etkhem b'tokh sh'ar availai tziyon ve Yerushalaim, may Hashem comfort you with all the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
The point of my talkback was that Jews have specific customs and that we don't ralete OUR selfish sorrow, but pray to HASHEM for comfort, an altogether different concept of humility. In my view it is actually anti-Jewish to try and assimilate our customs to goyshe customs by giving them names used by the goyim : we are we and they are them and it is vital for our very survival as Jews to learn to distinguish. Goyim express their condolences, Jews pay shiva visits

State of Israel against its Jews: ugly

B"H

This legal action against Hevron Jews will fail. Why? Because despite the politicized Ynet reporting, the Israeli Supreme Court did NOT order the building to be vacated. Rather, it upheld the defense ministry’s right to vacate the building, should it choose to. The decision to expel the Jews Bait Shalom was taken by Barak, not by the Supreme Court, to further his political agenda. State of Israel against its Jews: another ugly episode to prove that it may not be Jewish after all, that it may usurp the Jewish narrative and the Jewish symbolism to enforce its own, anti-Jewish agenda.

Stupid article

B"H

Mistaking effect for cause is a huge error. Blame your very own secular, so called "democratic" corruption Yair, not the Haredim in particular or the religious Jews in general that use it. This is one. Two, how do you measure the cost of this same secular “democratic” corruption, projected to other political forces, like the Labor party, for example? The cost of Barak being DM despite the fact that he lost the elections? How much does that cost to the collectivity? Rather than a religious guy, why don’t you sit a labor minister into your passenger seat and his government programs to the back?
Most importantly, three, since when self-proclaimed "democrats" like yourself address a fascia (segment) of society, rather than opinion groups (parties)? Attention, others did this in darker places and in darker ages, Yair!
Do you have stats of how much Haredi owned businesses pay in taxes? I bet you don't. Have you looked at job adverts lately? Code-worded because illegal, like "at least one week-end per month”, for seculars only? If you don't want religious Jews sitting in your “car”, than give them the car they want, to drive it the way they want to drive. Judea and Samaria. They will drive it up the hill, G-d willing. The fact that your car is out of gas does not mean that the Torah people are out of it too. Quite the opposite, actually.

Holyland Revenge by Yekutiel Guzofsky

The recent “Holyland’ (building complex built with help of bribes given to various politicians) controversy continues to unravel, after the arrest of some of Israel’s most powerful politicians including, former Jerusalem Mayor Lopoliansky and with clear indications that the police are going to be dragging in former Prime Minister Olmert for questioning any day.

Indeed the G-d of Israel is a G-d of vengeance, (Psalms). Out of lust for power, honor and money, Olmert betrayed The “Holy Land” of Israel and he supported the “disengagement” and expulsion of so many Jews from Gaza and elsewhere. Now, the ghost of “holyland” haunts Olmert hopefully for many years to come in prison. Olmert endorsed the surrender of “holy land”, now let’s see how fast he can disengage and extricate himself from the criminal charges related to “Holyland”.

*****

Excerpts from an article written by Rav Binyamin Zev Kahane about Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai:

As Lag B’Omer roles around, one is reminded of the holy Shimon Bar Yochai (Rashbi). The multitudes of Jews from all sects of Israeli life who flock to his grave site in Meron is testimony to the deep admiration that the Jewish People have for this very special Jewish figure.

Rashbi was the prized student of Rabbi Akiva who was one of the famed Ten Martyrs during the Roman occupation. Rabbi Akiva played a central role in the organization of Bar Kochba’s revolt and is referred to as Bar Kochba’s “arms-bearer” (Rambam, Hilchot Milachim). The 24,000 students who went in Rabbi Akiva’s footsteps and fell in the bloody war of independence against the Romans, died during the “Sfirat HaOmer” period, and the traditional restrictions practiced today are an expression of the Jewish nation’s struggle for spiritual and national independence. Rabbi Akiva himself sat in prison for several years for defying the Roman decrees by holding public Torah rallys. For this he was eventually tortured and executed.

These were the two sides of the leadership of Rabbi Akiva: The willingness to go out and sacrifice for national sovereignty as well as the ultimate self-sacrifice for Torah. The fierce combination of nationalism and Torah that burned in his bones was passed on as he ordained his five remaining students. Of those five, the greatest of them all was the scholar-warrior Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai. Rashbi established the basic Torah foundations of the Oral-Law as we know them today. His yeshiva put out the likes of Rabbi Yehuda HaNassi who arranged the Mishnah. But just like his “Rav”- Rabbi Akiva, Rashbi went beyond the learning and teaching of the Torah. He never stopped trying to bring back Jewish sovereignty to Eretz Yisrael, and abhorred with all his soul the Roman occupation. His belligerent attitude towards the Romans he made no secret of, even when it meant putting himself in danger for just expressing such opinions. We are told in Tractate Shabbat, 33: Once Rabbi Yehuda said, How fine are the works of this nation (Rome). They have made streets, they have built bridges, they have erected baths. Rabbi Yosef remained silent (for fear). Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai answered and said: All that they have made they have made for themselves; they built market places to put harlots in them; baths to rejuvenate themselves: bridges to levy taxes for themselves.

When these words reached the Roman authorities, a price was put on his head and he was forced to go underground for 13 years. …

Though Lag B’Omer falls during the Sefira when we mourn the death of Rabbi Akiva’s students, it is a day of rejoicing. For when all of the other students of Rabbi Akiva were killed in war, Rashbi managed to survive. He symbolizes the vitality of those who fought the Romans. He represents the continuation of the Torah scholar-warrior. He is the eternal flame that cannot be extinguished, and will remain enkindled until the final victory of complete redemption, may it come speedily in our days.
