Subject: Please address your "Jewish quality" problem ex Re: Vote for a Jewish hero!

Dear Jewish Telegraph Agency,

Your website http://jta.org/about states that the JTA strives to be "the definitive, trusted global source of ...current events". But this past year you printed a series of 3 one-sidedly derogatory articles against settlers, like myself, which does not fit this description.

It is my understanding that an Israeli grassroots organization, Mattot Arim www.mattotarim.org, has approached you several times regarding the most distasteful "fact" presented in your series: "Radical settlers ...have ...thrown acid at Israeli soldiers" http://jta.org/news/article/2009/06/24/1005829/behind-the-headlines-radical-jewish-settlers. I understand that Mattot Arim told you they have carefully looked into this matter with settler leaders such as the spokesperson of the Jewish Community of Hebron, where the event allegly occurred, the Shomron Council spokesperson, Women in Green founder Nadia Matar, Gush Katif spokesperson and others and all believe that the allegation you published is not factual, i.e. not a single settler is known to have thrown acid at even a single soldier.

I also understand that you have claimed that an un-named Israel Police spokesperson made this allegation to you and you merely reported it. Could you, the JTA, take responsibility for your story and write to the Israel Police, inform them that the information they gave you has been challenged by concerned readers such as myself and ask them to corroborate their allegation by providing the JTA in writing some elementary details regarding their allegation (copy of the chemical analysis performed if any, who (names, dates) purportedly witnessed these events, were any soldiers purportedly injured and if so where are the medical reports, etc.). I would be pleased to receive a copy of the Israel Police spokesperson's response to you in due course.

Or, since we are in Yom Kippur season -- the traditional Jewish apology season -- could you simply publish a correction and apology indicating that 1.) your acid story was challenged, 2.) you have not found any facts to support it and 3.) your acid story is therefore retracted until further notice.

Also, last night I received an email from you that shocked me!

With the subject line: "Vote for a Jewish hero" it publicizes a Jewish Community Hero of the Year web page. As the title suggests, I hoped to find there the one name that mattered, Jonathan Pollard's. Well, it is not there!

Based on the above, now I think that JTA has a serious "Jewish quality" problem it should address and fix. The earlier the better. I will do my best to help you do just that, as it doesn't seem to me right that a few of us should risk our lives to claim our inheritance, the Land of Israel, for you too, sitting here in the cold of the winter and in the heat of the summer, just a few meters away from hostile Arabs, while you seem to be busy inventing stories on us, sitting in your confy air conditioned offices, ignoring the real hero of the Jewish people, Jonathan Pollard.

Bergman's Unfounded Hypothesis

B"H

- Bergman: "Should they [the major powers, France, US, GB, etc.]respond, as expected, by tightening the economic sanctions on Tehran, it may still be possible to curb the Iranian nuclear project and make an Israeli strike unnecessary".

- ABY: 1.) The case of North Korea clearly shows that it is perfectly possible for a country to develop and maintain a nuclear military program, even with a starving population. This means that the hypothesis of economic sanctions against Iran will never work.

2.) The Iranian regime IS "suicidal" in Western terms, in as much as it views the ushering in of a world caliphate a worthy cause for sacrifice.

3.) It is worrisome that Bergman, who is considered an authority on Iran, should feed us, the readers, such unfounded hypothesis, at a time when the public would need preparatory ground work to support the possible consequences of a by all means necessary Israeli strike on Iran. If anything, this is a suicidal attitude

Interesting way of policing, interesting way of reporting

B"H

It is easy to figure out, checking with competitor online news sources, that the people named "tourists" by ynetnews were in effect Jews. It also is easy to figure out that these people were attacked by Arabs not so much because they were tourists, but because they were Jews. Is the fact that ynetnews omits this slight little insignificant detail, substituting "Jews" with "tourists", an attempt to whitewash the nationalistic and terrorist nature of the Arab Islamist attack? One also doesn't understand why the police's action is centered around the removal of the Jews, rather then the removal of the perpetrators of the violence, guaranteeing what they are paid for: freedom of religion on Judaism holiest site.

Politicians, keep your hands off our G-d given time!

B"H

Our time is determined by the movements of the universe. Let's keep it that way! I figure communicating to the population to change their watches costs more than all the supposed saving. Besides, it would be enough to change time-tables, instead of the time itself. What an arrogance!

What the UN wants is irrelevant

B"H

What the UN wants is irrelevant. If Anav Silverman read his Bible he'd know that the nations and thus the united nations too want Israel dead. What matters therefore is what we, the Jews want. Do we want a clean shaven, American looking and American sounding Israeli prime minister showing Auschwitz maps he got from the Germans to the world or do we want a Jewish looking and Jewish sounding and Jewish thinking diplomatic service to tell the world about G-d and His Kingdom? What is the Jews' role in this world? To play the victim's role or to be a priestly nation for G-d? How much lower can we sink?!

Arabs are a threat too denial

B"H

There is a politically correct tendency in Israel today that can be described as "Arabs are a threat too denial". There is an Arab minority here, so anyone who says "Arabs are our enemies" or "Arabs are Holocaust deniers" or that "Mr. Abbas is an accomplished Holocaust denying author and politician" is considered a racist and faces civil proceedings on incitement for racism charges. As there isn't a non Jewish Iranian minority in Israel, saying that Iran is a threat is not considered racist statement.

"The Great MiddleEast Tragedy Apology" is actually a sin

B"H

Got bad news for you guys: there are NO innocent "palestinians". Any Arab who calls himself a "palestinian" automatically loses his or her innocence as "the palestinian people" is a terror organization created against the Jews in 1964 by Nasser. Furthermore, any Arab who is not converted to Judaism and finds him- or herself in Eretz Israel automatically loses his or her innocence as he or she is a non Jew in our Holy G-d given Land and has no Torah right to stay here. Besides, these people are waging a war at us, therefore the Jewish laws of war apply. So, sorry, but NO sorry is possible in the sense you are proposing it! That there maybe a decent pali individual out there hiding in the wild? Maybe. But, it doesn’t matter. We don’t look at it. We have to hate Amalek and eliminate his seed and with this Western, human rightist culture pushed down on our collective throats in the exile, it is not easy. So, let's say Sorry! for this.

"Natural and "unnatural"

B"H

That the nations, including America, want to shoot Israel down - is natural. What is unnatural is that we are unprepared to see this and pretend our right to national security on the whole of our G-d given national territory. With other words, when you don't see your enemy or when you refuse to see him, you can't fight it. And that's the stage we are at.

Outrageous, Non Jewish idea!

B"H

I find this piece of yours Alan very disturbing. You mention G-d's name, in vain, at the end of a policy proposal that is not in line with His word and has nothing to do with the teachings of His Torah. This means that you think of your idea as better than the set of ideas that kept us alive as Jews throughout written history and frankly this kind of exaggerated and limitless arrogance doesn't seem to me very smart, even in completely secular, political-scientific, sociological or anthropological terms. Thus, here is my request to you: Please reconsider your provocative position on allowing goyim into Eretz Israel for peace and refrain from publicizing it to people, at least on New Year's Eve, for G-d's sake! Thank you.

Assesment post [On the Second International Jewish Bloggers Convention]

B"H

- A friend: "B"H - Interesting just perusing tweets about the convention. http://twitter.com/#search?q=%23jbloggers. I await your assessment posts."

- The event does not merit any assesment posts (name of friend). I think it was irrelevant and the best part of it was the buffet and the photo exibition on haredim in the hall of the Beit Avichai convention center in Jerusalem.

This is not because the convention was badly organized or because the speakers lacked professional qualities, but because blogging is a form of expressing an opinion and it is not an opinion in itself. So, at the end of day, it's thin air and there is very little to convene about.

Missing the point, not Oslo

B"H

Haber – again - seem to be missing the point: Oslo not only didn't work, not only backfired on us, but it was never a Jewish solution to peace at the first place. The Torah requires us to win our wars with and for Hashem, to show the world His might, not to voluntarily give up our G-d given Holy Land: an incredible cowardness for which we are and we'll be paying a heavy price. Haber also conveniently forgets the corruption and thievery the accords continue to generate on both sides.

Israel will eventually have to decide to win

B"H

Israel will eventually have to decide to win its war of independence. It however will not be the present State. This one is an expression of the nations, not of the Jews. As it is, it cannot do it. Things will have to get very bad and very painful for the Jews and then, only when we'll cry out to Hashem, to our G-d, and not to the IDF to protect us, then we will win. With the help of our G-d. The Bible calls this the War of Gog and Magog.

Different rates to different segments of society

Offering different rates (of utilities) to different segments of society is a fascist idea, whereas doing the same on the basis of income is communist. The Jewish way is to offer a fair price with limited profit margins.

B"H

If "human resources departments and workers' committees will be handing out holiday gifts to 1.2 million workers, at a total value of NIS 1.5 billion", this means 1.250 shekels per employee and not NIS 500 – NIS 700 as reported. B"H

I don't think the public pronouncement you are refering to is "dumb". I think reform and conservative ARE outside of judaism and if you "just sit there" you are legitimizing a non kosher worship of G-d. Unless you sit there because it's cool in the summer or because it's warm in the winter.

IT'S ALMOST ROSH HASHANA by Daniel Pinner

B"H

It is almost Rosh Ha-Shanah – and we are preparing to celebrate the new year with our friends, our families, and our loved ones.

It is almost Rosh Ha-Shanah – and we are thinking about teshuvah, repentance, for the sins we have committed and the mitzvot we have neglected in the past.

It is almost Rosh Ha-Shanah – and some of us are already busy cooking, cleaning, preparing our houses for the holiday season, for our guests.

It is almost Rosh Ha-Shanah – and we are looking forward to praying in our Synagogue, hearing the familiar prayers with their much-loved melodies, the Shofar blast with its divine message of repentance, forgiveness, and God’s majesty and sovereignty.

It is almost Rosh Ha-Shanah – and we can already almost taste the apple and honey, the honey cake, the best quality Kiddush wine, and all the delicious food that accompanies this festival-laden month.

It is almost Rosh Ha-Shanah – and we are already beginning to think about erecting our Sukkot, we are already beginning to bring out the decorations

It is almost Rosh Ha-Shanah – and we can be sure that Jonathan Pollard will not be allowed to celebrate Rosh Ha-Shanah in his prison cell in the USA; he will be denied his friends, his wife, his family, all those whom he loves and who love him; he will be unable to hear the Shofar blast, he will not be permitted to participate in any services. Jonathan Pollard has no Sukkah to look forward to, no decorations to prepare, no festival food to eat.

You can do something to help!

Please, please send a Shanah Tovah card to Jonathan Pollard. His address is:

Jonathan Pollard #09185-016
c/o FCI Butner
P.O. Box 1000
Butner, NC
U.S.A 27509-1000

It may not be much, but it is something that everyone – including you! – can do. I speak from personal experience when I say that receiving letters is a tremendous morale boost for a prisoner. Indeed, Jonathan himself describes the letters he receives as his “oxygen”. I have no idea if prisons and guards in the USA are anything like in Israel, but if they are, then when the prison system – from the individual guards a; the way up to the top commanders – see that a prisoner receives mail, then they know that people on the outside care about him, and are more reluctant to abuse him.

Jonathan Pollard has given almost quarter of a century of his life due to the venality of certain American and Israeli top politicians. If you live in Israel then you may owe your very live to Jonathan – because it was he who gave Israel crucial information about Iraqi Scud missiles and other Iraqi military capability.

You can give a few minutes and a few shekels (or dollars) of your own life to send Jonathan Pollard a Rosh Ha-Shanah card. Even if it arrives after Rosh Ha-Shanah, nevertheless send it!

Let us make this effort together. Let us ensure that our brother Jonathan Pollard is flooded with Rosh Ha-Shanah cards this year; send one, send a few, get as many friends and family members to send, send these cards from all over the world.

Let Jonathan Pollard know that even in his prison cell, he is not alone!

Let Jonathan Pollard know that we have not forgotten or abandoned him!

Re: # 12 [on Judaism]

B"H

1.) My "sorry ass is PROTECTED" by Hashem, certainly not by democratic laws. Democracy is a Hellenistic concept, demos meaning people and cratos power. Judaism is about "Hashemcracy", G-d's might.

2.) Yes, I'm practicing a weird kind of Judaism, called Torah Judaism.

3.) Only Hashem knows why the Shoa took place in Europe and not in America. What I do know is that American Jewry today is weaker than ever and that president Hussein Obama poses a bigger threat to Jews than any American president ever.

4.) I did consider "that maybe, just maybe, G-d does not like the way I practice Judaism". But then I came to the conclusion that probably it is not so because there is an objective measure: the degree of adherence to Halacha, Jewish Law. Reform and Conservative are loose on their adherence to Halacha. In my view they are outside of Judaism altogether.

5.) I am not "spitting on my brother", and I don't have an "I'm so big and so super, and so over me all animals" attitude to correct. I do have a mitzvah to fulfill, that is to correct my astrayed brothers, if I think they'll listen. You may not listen, but some other readers might.

6.) You are advised to quote your sources when you refer to the "Talmud".

Like it or not

B"H

Like it or not Yair, your secular Democratic Republic of Israel is declared on The biblical Holy Land of Israel. That's a G-d given Land to the Jews in order to separate us from the nations and their foreign culture and terrible habits and thus allow us to be holy and keep the mitzvot. As Judaism is (also) this set of dos and don'ts and it is irrespective of popular support, any "democratic" attempt to introduce non-Torah law to the Land of Torah is called "evil" and doomed, eventually, to fail. Torah-truth and Torah law are G-d given and do not depend on the number of people supporting it.

Where I live, in Judea and Samaria, Israel IS an apartheid State: it is against the Jews. Once I was even arrested by the police and spent a night in a holding cell in Ariel because an Arab spat me in the face. The offending Arab was allowed to go home unharmed. In other places and maybe in other times historians, sociologist, political scientists and anthropologists would call this “institutional anti-Semitism”.

Re: # 20, # 24 [On Chilul Hashem, (desecrating G-d's name) on purpose]

B"H

We talked (back) about this already guys. I'm not surprised of your comments and I don't think I can do much more for you then what I'm doing already, that is posting a Torah impregnated opinion here free of charge whenever I can: on judgment day you won't be able to claim "I didn't know". You knew! As you don't believe in judgment day either, there really is very little to talk about your individual choices. You are given free will and at the final analysis you are responsible for your choice of conduct.

What strikes me however as particularly evil is the ease with which you negate Jewish Rights to Jews. Xtians can have their vatican for you, no big deal, you don’t pretend - say - Sunday shopping there. Muslims can have their Mecca, Saudi Arabia, Iran, etc, no big problem for you, you don’t pretend to hold – say - gay parades there. For you only the Jews can't have their G-d given exclusive place for their practices. Isn’t that weird?

As the observance of Torah Law is mandatory in Eretz Israel, I view your public defiance as anti-Jewish: the Jewish meaning of life is not the seeking of happiness through direct sensory delights, so typical of the nations, rather the finding happiness in meaning. This is the key in serving Hashem, our G-d and is precisely the reason of our being here, in Israel.
